Hi. I'm Patricia Nelles. Besides writing novels, I have fun with the literary spectrum. I write Dog-Nonsense poetry, specifically about Shakespeare, the dog who lives with me.

Shakespeare, like everyone, has a need to fulfill himself. Being a city dog, for him to find satisfaction in instinctive dog ways, such as hunting, chasing, and herding, is difficult; even though we are welcome to tramp through a farm located just outside the City.

Certain eye-brow raisings indicated that friends and family were sceptical I should attach myself to such an active (translated tough-to-train) canine.

So I set out to help Shakespeare prove his worth by appealing to people's sense of humour. Seven Poetic Dog-Nonsense Chapters later, Shakespeare has become immortalized, in limited circles, for his headstrong antics. I made Shakespeare famous; now I wish him to return the favour.

If Shakespeare could talk, (and he actually does speak for himself in Chapter VII which is on this Blog) he would tell you he tries his best to behave. However, his patience becomes taxed as he watches me writing, for what seems to him hours. He wishes I'd stop and take him hiking at the farm! Never mind that I am working on another novel...

Hi. My name is Shakespeare and I am a dog

For years now that Pat has been keeping a log

Of the times I've been washed down with soap and a hose

Just because it's so lovely following my nose

To find El Dorado! At a groundhog's front door!

Where I roll round fondly, who could ask for more

Than to cover oneself with an odorous smell

In streaks and with smears from one's head to one's tail?
